What are your top five break-up songs?
Submitted by gt.
I've only got one.
When you've got a song like this you don't need any more break-up songs. ;-)
What's the best thing about today?
For once I actually have several things vying for this award!
- EWK is getting better after his nasty infection that we shall not talk about because anything to do with infections is kinda gross.
- I may have mentioned that I helped build a website for free for a friend's sister's company a few months ago. I found out today that they've decided to pay us just because they're really nice people and they like the site a whole lot. Wads of cash I wasn't expecting is always good.
- I got a job! 3 hours teaching per week. Regular wads of cash is even better than unexpected wads of cash!
Of course this balances out the crap stuff.
- I've managed to catch a head cold which has left me grumpy and out of sorts.
- I've managed to catch a head cold just before I start my new job, so now I'm going to be sniffly and confused all over poor hapless graduate diploma students.
- The landlord has put our rent up $40 per week, which is why the job was so damned fortuitous right now.
- Oh, and I'm really, really busy and haven't had time to Vox recently.
Hope you are all well. Give my love to your family. Hope to catch up with you again soon!
xox MWAH! xox
If you were suddenly granted the day off today, how would you go spend your free time?
What's this 'if', Vox? It's Saturday here. I've already been granted the day off by the Gregorian calendar. Nothing sudden about it really.
How am I spending my time on this not-so-sudden day off? Pontificating online about the nature of 'Saturday' apparently.
If you could create your own National Holiday, what would it be and when?
Submitted by John M.
It would be the Daily Holiday. It would be a day off celebrating the fact that it's a day off. And it would be every day.
Not good for the economy, perhaps, but good for bone-idle people like me.
What's your favorite thing to drink when it's cold outside?
Vodka. Conveniently this is also my favourite thing to drink when it's hot outside. Or rainy. Or slightly balmy with light cloud cover for that matter.
Damn I love vodka.
Audio: What's your favorite carol or holiday song?
Sadly I have no recording of this, so I'll just have to post the lyrics. A friend taught me this carol, such to the tune of 'Deck the Halls'. It's classy.
Take your clothes off worship Satan
Fa-la-la-la-laaaa, la la la la
For your soul our demon lord's waitin'
Fa-la-la-la-laaaa, la la la la
Come and join the undead legions
Fa-la-laaa, la-la-laaaa, la la la
Lubricate your nether regions
Fa-la-la-la-laaaaaa, la la la laaaaa.
Are you a registered organ donor? Why or why not?
Submitted by jacolily.
Yes I am. Sadly Australia has one of the lowest rates of organ donation in the world. A couple of years ago they changed the way the organ donation registry worked to address this. Prior to the change registering as an organ donor didn't automatically mean your organs were donated. Your family still had to give approval after your death. I'd imagine that facing the trauma of losing a loved one would not leave family members in the right frame of mind to make a rational decision based on the wishes of the deceased. Now, thankfully, the wishes of the deceased take precedence. Since I've already said I want all my useful organs donated my family can't step in and stop it from happening.
Our donation rate is still woefully low. A high profile cricketer's death a few years ago prompted a surge in people registering, but the government is considering an opt-out program rather than an opt-in program because the demand is still exceeding supply by so much. That way organs would be automatically donated unless the deceased had stated they didn't want it to happen. It could be a successful way of tackling the problem in a country like Australia, where the laid-back attitude could contribute to low participation (can't be bothered thinking about it, and even if they do think about it many don't bother doing anything about it). But I think it would be a legal and ethical minefield.
Finish this sentence: "I am glad to say that I have never ___."

... finished this sentence.
No. Wait... Damn. :-(
What fictional creature do you wish were real?
Apparently they're German house sprites who will help you with the housework if you're nice to them. Sounds better than one of those automatic vacuum cleaners, and a much better conversation starter with guests. But it makes you wonder, why would Germans need house sprites to help them clean? All the Germans I've known have been compulsively tidy. The poor bloody Kobold would die of boredom.
Come here, my Kobold friends! I will keep you busy!
What is the best beer on planet Earth?

I don't know, but I'm very happy to continue testing all possible candidates to find out.
