Thank goodness for the 'dignity of the chamber'

That response from Gillard to Tuckey was one of the highlights (lesser, naturally, after Wednesday) of the Parliamentary week. It's also been interesting to see the new Speaker, Harry Jenkins, assert himself in the role his father once held in a previous Parliament. Seems like he's keen on the Speaker being reasonably independent of the Government for a change - pulled up Wayne Swan during an answer for relevance at Wednesday's question time...
That's more like it. I like seeing MPs treating the place and job with the seriousness it necessarily holds. But I also like to see these repartees which demonstrate our parliamentary reps can actually think on their feet and have a sense of mongrel about them.
Thanks for grabbing this EWQ.

And I'm with you Ninja. I look forward to watching Julia take this old blokes down. Granted Iron bar did most of the damage to himself.

Fantastic. I take it Tuckey is from O'Connor, and Gillard is the DPM? That line about the enormity of his cheer squad when they turn up was priceless.
