QotD: See You Later, Decorator
What is your home decorating style, and how has it changed over time? Do you have plans to redecorate?

Hahahaha. Cheap. That's the only way to sum up my decorating style. Why? Because I have no money, and having been a student for the last six years, I have had no money for quite a while and look like having no money for some time to come. Some would prefer to call it 'thrifty chic' - a term which I would happily adopt if there was indeed anything chic about my furniture. Sadly that is not the case, so I live in what looks like an explosion in the back room of an op shop.
Am I planning to redecorate? In the unlikely event of winning lotto, perhaps. Otherwise, no. We have enough cheap crap in our flat. There's no need to add any more cheap crap to it.
This leads me to an interesting fact: I studied design. I have lots of friends who are designers. We all learned about minimalism and know how to make things look good. Yet every designer I know lives in a cluttered whore-house of junk that is as woefully mismatched as it is outdated - and that's both students and professionals. I'm not sure why that is. Possibly because we're like bower birds; except we don't just collect random objects, we form emotional bonds with them, making it impossible to throw them out or relegate them to a lesser position out of sight. All our precious things must be on display all the time, otherwise how would people know about all our cool stuff??? Or it could just be that we're all designed out by the time we get home. After a hard day making everything look incredibly good it's nice to curl up on a tatty couch and leave your stuff where it lies and just let go of all the designerly pressure. Or maybe we're lazy. I'll definitely put my hand up to the last option. Lazy and Cheap. It could be the Next Big Thing in interior design, you just wait.
