A little wind problem
No, not with me. With south-eastern Australia. At first I had to double check the date to ensure it wasn't still April 1 (which is definitely isn't in this particular time-zone) when I read the news, "Traffic chaos as people told to flee city". But it's true. The whole of Melbourne has been told to go home from work as they're probably going to close the two main bridges in a few hours when winds get to 120km per hour. I just got an email from my uni saying that all classes are cancelled for the rest of the day. So, wow, high wind has closed an entire city. Those of you who live in hurricane prone areas are probably rolling your eyes at my shock, but this isn't something I'm used to in Melbourne.
In a way I'm glad they've cancelled classes. I don't like walking around in high winds as flying debris and falling branches aren't good for your health. On the other hand I like getting paid and as a sessional I don't get paid if I don't teach. However, since the appreciation for the intactness of my skull outweighs my desire for extra cash I'm not going to mope too much about it.
I'm lucky since I've been indoors all day. Now that the design phase of my project has started it's easier for me to work from home so I haven't had to venture out in this weather. I'm hoping all the Victorian and Tasmanian Voxers are coping with the wind okay! (And yes, I mean you Dylan since there are hurricane warnings for parts of Tasmania! Check in and let me know you're okay!)
ETA: I've just realised things are worse than I thought. I can't go outside. And I have no alcohol in the house. Damn you, Hughie.* And here I thought you were finally being nice to me.
* Hughie: The Australian god of weather. As in "Send 'er down, Hughie".

It looks kind of hurricane-ish outside my window (southern NSW). I'm glad I sent my fiance back to work in the car at lunchtime - he is a tiny stick of a person (grr) and would get blown away.
But (of course), there is still no stupid rain!
I'm also about to leave uni though, so I'll let you know when I get home, m'k?
Ta for the warning though!
D
over the last few years, there's been a significant increase in tornados/funnel clouds here in Long Beach. not enough to close the whole city - but still significantly more than the NONE we used to have!
hold tight!
I'm sitting in my popup camper at Kingston SE and watching some serious white caps on the sea. We can actually see it from our camping spot. The storms are roaring in about every hour or so and testing our vans.
It looks magnificent but I'm glad we aren't in a tent. We had to navigate around a few fallen trees this morning so we are keeping clear of the gum trees.
:D
I heard a news item where a police spokeswoman advised those taking traffic control into their own hands to stop right away. She said the cops had abandoned point duty where the lights were out because it was too dangerous.
Never heard such a thing before.
That's mainly what we lost...
also... Leopard print? I'm horrified that you'd consider me owning ANYTHING with leopard print! lol
It was quite scary wasn't it, I came off a quivering tram and had to hold on to a pole to stop from blowing away.
BTW, I read some of your other posts, which are really quite funny and brightened up my day :) (and was a much better way to procrastinate from doing my science homework).
I just read your blog too. It's really good! Blogging about the 50 things you want to do before you turn 15 is a terrific topic. Good luck with getting those final 37 tasks done in time!
